Sharing What You’ve Made

We want to see/hear from you.

Yesterday I was picking up my daughter from pre-school and, while waiting in the hallway, I noticed the art that was hung on the wall outside the door.

Each child had drawn a picture of what they did over Winter Break and the teachers had captioned the pictures. Not surprisingly, the range of pictures was large - both from a topical standpoint (what they did) and also the style of the art.

I started thinking about how this activity likely played out in the classroom.

I imagine each child was eagerly awaiting their turn to share and, when it was their turn, stood in front of their friends and told their story - beaming with excitement and pride.

Each one was likely thrilled to share what they had made - regardless of the content or the style of their work.

I contrast that with what we sometimes do with our work.

We hesitate to share what we've made for fear of criticism or we pause before sending our thoughts in case we're wrong (or the recipient might think we're wrong).

I believe we would be well-served to take inspiration from pre-schoolers and have both the confidence and excitement to say to the world: "Here, I made this".

So here's my challenge: act like a pre-schooler and share what you've made - regardless of what you think about the content or the quality.

Thanks for spending time with me in my workshop,

Eric
