Slides are Free

Stop counting slides in your presentations.

When you're building decks and presentations - have you ever stopped to think about the fact that slides are free?

No really - more slides are just a click or shortcut key away. No cost, no fee, no restrictions.

Often times it's easy to hold yourself to an arbitrary number of slides in a deck. It can be equally easy to attempt to shoehorn as much information on a single board as possible. But both of these approaches are flawed.

Why?

Well, as it turns out, slides are free. There also isn't a limit on the number available to you. So when you're building your next deck - remind yourself of this.

Tell the story you want to tell and don't let counting slides weigh you down.

Let your story build across the boards rather than jam everything into one.

Use full-bleed images and allow your voiceover to tell the story while the image sets the tone and mood.

Value negative space and wield it like the storytelling tool that it is.

Your slide count might increase, but I'd wager that the impact of your presentation will as well.

Thanks for spending time with me in my workshop,

Eric
